Tweeting from space

Posted by putsimply on 13th May 2009

As the reach and popularity of Twitter increases, today saw the first Tweet from space.  Astro_Mike, an astronaut on STS-125 sent a tweet earlier today saying “From orbit: Launch was awesome!! I am feeling great, working hard, & enjoying the magnificent views, the adventure of a lifetime has begun!”

Looking back through Mike’s account shows tweets about getting ready for launch, having dinner with the family and going through his final flight checks. While none of this is particularly groundbreaking, (in fact I imagine NASA’s media department are keeping a close eye on the account,) it still gives you what feels like an incredible insight into the life of someone that you would normally only hear mentioned on the news.

His 249,000 followers show I’m not the only one.

This is a far cry from the recent antics of Kanye West, who launched a hilarious tirade on his blog about people impersonating him on Twitter.  I’ll avoid posting the full profanity laden post on here, but it’s well worth a read.

Guess it’s not everyone’s cup of tea then.
