The Guardian launches new iPhone App

Posted by Danny Whatmough on 19th January 2011

The Guardian has today launched a new iPhone App.

It offers a range of new features including video, comments, push notification goal updates and live blogs.

The new application is free to download and try out, but to receive content will cost £2.99 for six months or £3.99 for a year-long subscription.

The old app will continue to work for a while, but will eventually be phased out entirely.

The previous incarnation is one of the few apps that I use on a near daily basis.

Having downloaded the new version, the changes, though relatively small, are all welcome additions.

While some might be quibble at having to pay again (and then again after six or twelve months), for the regular user it seems to represent really good value, especially when you take into account the (daily) cost of the paper version, the paywall charges you’d receive from The Times, not to mention the Daily Mail iPhone costs £4.99 and £8.99 for the same time periods respectively.

You can download it here (iTunes link) or from the App store.
