Macmillan Bake Sale: Raising funds, doing good and eating for a cause
Recently, I organised and hosted my eighth Macmillan Coffee Morning at the Wildfire office since joining the team way back in 2016 (would have been one more if not for pesky Covid!).
Over the years, I’m proud to say we’ve raised thousands of pounds for a very important cause that’s close to my heart. All just by baking, and of course eating, goods of all varieties.
This year we were treated to everything from classic brownies and yummy fairy cakes to a delicious raspberry and almond slice. Not to mention the cookies, muffins, and even samosas that graced the tables!
The charity bake sale is an annual fixture on the Wildfire calendar. It’s a time for giving back, team bonding, and raising funds for a charity that supports those going through one of the hardest challenges life can throw at you.
And I would know. My own experience with cancer includes an initial diagnosis in my mid-20s and a recurrence nine years later. Coincidentally, the bake sale always lands around the time of my first diagnosis, giving it a personal significance.
Macmillan has always been there for people like me, offering support to those facing the hardest news and for their loved ones during the toughest times. Hosting this annual bake sale raises funds for a great cause, but it’s also about giving cancer a big V’s up.
Doing good
Wildfire’s ‘Do Good’ value is an integral part of who we are as an agency. As a team, we’re always finding ways to give back and make a positive impact, both inside and outside the office.
The annual bake sale is an opportunity not just to scoff delicious home-baked goodies but to also bring feel-good vibes to the Boathouse office. And that’s why the Macmillan Coffee Morning will remain an annual celebration in the Wildfire calendar. I’m already looking forward to the next one!
However, the bake sale is by no means the only charitable effort here at Wildfire. Giving back is part of our culture. We’re all focused on making a positive difference to our community and society, supporting charities and causes that we’re passionate about — whether it’s bake sales, giving blood, rewilding, volunteering our time, or running half marathons.
